A more consistent approach
I’m developing The Better Paddock Method to bring greater consistency to assessment, planning, practical work and follow-up. The framework stays clear; the decisions suit each property.
I’m James, founder of JD Slashing & Pasture Management. I’m bringing a farming background to acreage management, and building towards a bigger future in rural business.
What I’m working on
I grew up in western NSW, where Dad managed 7,000 sheep across 18,000 acres. Learning alongside him and other farmers gave me an early understanding of the relationship between the land, the pasture and the animals it supports.
That foundation continued through Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School and later while running irrigation across 10,000 acres of cotton. Those experiences shaped the work I enjoy and the way I approach it today.
I own and operate JD Slashing & Pasture Management, helping acreage owners and small farms across South East Queensland.
My role combines understanding a property, explaining the options and getting practical work done. I enjoy helping owners work out where to start and build a plan they can follow.

Practical work, informed by the property in front of me.I’m developing The Better Paddock Method to bring greater consistency to assessment, planning, practical work and follow-up. The framework stays clear; the decisions suit each property.
Alongside the field work, I’m improving the systems, standards and relationships that support JD as it grows. I want good service to be something customers can rely on.
I keep researching, asking questions and seeking specialist advice where needed. Experience gives me a foundation, and there’s always more to understand.

My immediate priority is to make JD a stronger, more capable business, with the people and systems to grow while maintaining the standards behind it.
Longer term, I want to own and grow a group of complementary rural businesses through JD Fisk & Co. Businesses that do useful work, support one another and serve the people looking after our land.
Build businesses people trust. Do work worth standing behind. Look after the land for those who come next.
I’m interested in connecting with experienced rural business owners, including those thinking about their next chapter. There’s knowledge, skill and reputation worth preserving and building on.
I’m exploring how practical guidance and digital tools could help landholders plan their work, understand the inputs they need and find suitable suppliers or contractors.
My connection to nature and animals, time outdoors, and health and fitness are important parts of my life. I want them to remain part of the future I’m building.
If you’re a landholder looking for help, a rural business owner, or someone working on a useful idea in agriculture, I’d be happy to hear from you.
